Writing Competition

​Fabled Magazine and Book Fair Australia invite you to explore the untold story that exits beyond the book itself or delve into the rich history behind a traditional narrative. Your submission should reflect this theme in a creative, thought-provoking way.

Submission Guidelines:

Submissions open in September.

Submissions should be no more than 2000 words in length.

All entries must be an original and unpublished work. They may be stories or poems. Published authors are welcome to apply.

Please title your submission as "BFA competition" and submit to the Fabled Magazine website.

Include a title page containing the following information:

Author Name
-
Contact Details (email)
-
Social Media Links (if applicable)

Eligibility requirements:

Subscribe to the Fabled Magazine mailing list (details on their website).

Subscribe to the Book Fair Australia mailing list.

Competition Deadline:
The final date to submit your entry is Friday 12 December. Late submissions will not be considered.

Winner Announcement:
The winner will be announced at Book Fair Australia Melbourne 2026, presented by Book Addiction at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday 21 February at 1:15pm.

Winner: The winner will have their full story or poem published in Fabled Magazine's second issue, along with their social media handles included.

The five shortlisted entries will be mentioned in a blog post on the Fabled Magazine website and the Book Fair Australia website, with their social media handles tagged.

By entering, you grant Fabled Magazine the right to publish your submission in Issue 2 of the magazine and any related promotional materials.
