Writing Competition

​Fabled Magazine and Book Fair Australia invite you to explore the untold story that exits beyond the book itself or delve into the rich history behind a traditional narrative. Your submission should reflect this theme in a creative, thought-provoking way. 

​

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions open in September.

  • Submissions should be no more than 2000 words in length.

  • All entries must be an original and unpublished work. They may be stories or poems. Published authors are welcome to apply.

  • Please title your submission as "BFA competition" and submit to the Fabled Magazine website

  • Include a title page containing the following information:

    • Author Name

    • Contact Details (email)

    • Social Media Links (if applicable)

Eligibility requirements:

  • Follow Book Fair Australia on Instagram or Facebook.

  • Subscribe to the Book Fair Australia mailing list.

Competition Deadline:

The final date to submit your entry is Friday 12 December. Late submissions will not be considered.

Winner Announcement:

The winner will be announced at Book Fair Australia Melbourne 2026, presented by Book Addiction at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday 21 February at 1:15pm.

  • Winner: The winner will have their full story or poem published in Fabled Magazine's second issue, along with their social media handles included.

  • The five shortlisted entries will be mentioned in a blog post on the Fabled Magazine website and the Book Fair Australia website, with their social media handles tagged.

Terms & Conditions:

  • By entering, you grant Fabled Magazine the right to publish your submission in Issue 2 of the magazine and any related promotional materials.

  • Entries that do not adhere to the guidelines will be disqualified.​​​
